The Human Resources Executive is evolving from a supportive, reactive role to that of a strategic driver of change. Joan's presentation will focus on her personal journey as well as the profession as a whole. She reinforces the need for continuous learning, being open to ideas from a wide spectrum of sources, and then using that knowledge to take action. Ms. Joan G. Swenson, Chief Human Resource Officer for the Kettering Medical Center Network, has nearly thirty years experience in healthcare management from a variety of functions including nursing and human resources. Her responsibilities have included a variety of healthcare initiatives including nursing management of Med-Surg, Psych, Critical Care, Maternal Child, and Emergency Room areas as well as being a nurse recruiter. In 1982 Joan transitioned to Human Resources and spent ten years as the Director of Human Resources for Boston Regional Medical Center while concurrently holding the position of Personnel Coordinator for the Atlantic Adventist Healthcare Corporation and HR Consultant to the Southern New England Conference. Joan joined Kettering Medical Center in 1998 as the Director of Human Resources and in 2003 Joan became the Chief Human Resource Officer for KMCN. Joan is the current President of the Adventist Health Systems Human Resources Association (AHSHRA), a board member of Clothes that Work, located at the Job Center in Dayton, and a member of the Miami Valley Senior HR Executives, the American Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration (ASHHRA), the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM), and the Ohio Conference Personnel Committee. Ms. Swenson holds a B.S. in Nursing from Atlantic Union College and an MBA from Regis University.
