OUR TWO LOCAL SHRM STUDENT CHAPTERS
Our first Student Chapter was Wright State University, located in Dayton, Ohio. This SHRM Student Chapter #5204 is associated with the Wright State University Department of Management, College of Business and Administration, and the Wright State University Management Club. Our newest Student Chapter is Edison Community College, located in Piqua, Ohio. This SHRM Student Chapter #5473 is associated with the Edison Community College. The faculty advisor is Bill Waxman, Assistant Professor of Marketing, SBHRM Collegiate Advisor. Bill can be contacted at waxman@edisonohio.edu.
MVHRA is the SHRM Affiliate Chapter sponsor for the Wright State University and Edison Community College Student Chapters. Student Chapters members are encouraged to become members of the MVHRA and to participate in meetings and activities at discounted prices.

MVHRA student members receive numerous benefits including networking, job opportunities hotline, resumé bank, mentoring, and scholarship opportunities.
Once a year, the MVHRA College Relations Committee coordinates the offer of MVHRA $500 Student Scholarship Awards to both undergraduate and graduate students pursuing careers in the field of Human Resource Management.
The Wright State University and Edison Community College Student Chapter members are also eligible to receive scholarship awards toward the cost of the Professional in Human Resource (PHR) certification workshops and exam fees which are offered twice a year.
MVHRA Scholarship Application
At the state level:
The SHRM Ohio State Council College Relations Committee chairman oversees the yearly Ohio SHRM Student Conference. All participating national Student Chapters are encouraged to sponsor a state student conference for student members, faculty, and professionals in their respective states. In April 1995, Wright State University sponsored a very successful conference for the state of Ohio which was attended by over 100 members from thirteen Student Chapters. Student members are also encouraged to attend the SHRM professional state conferences each year.
At the national level:
Wright State University and Edison Community College Student Chapter members are encouraged to seek student membership in SHRM. The SHRM Student Services membership program was created in 1965 to "promote mutually beneficial interaction between HR students and practitioners". Among the many benefits offered to student members are subscriptions to HRMagazine and HRNews bulletin, invitations to attend the national SHRM Student Conference, student awards, grants and scholarships.
