
Benefits Specialist

We are currently seeking an experience Benefits Specialist to develop, negotiate, and implement WPCU sponsored employee benefits programs.
The main responsibilities of the Benefits Specialist include:
- Developing new and revised employee benefits programs, policies and procedures.
- Administering current benefits programs to include: health, dental, vision, flex benefits, retirement plan, workers compensation, employee assistance, supplemental insurance, disability, 401(k), and FSA, FMLA STD and COBRA.
- Researching best practice and viewing statistical reports provided by vendors with regard to trends in benefits usage, etc, and submit proposals for plan changes, utilization, vendor selection, and the administration of all 401(k) plans.
- Managing employee leave process to include STD/FMLA eligibility/ certification/notification of approval/and RTW.
- Administering audits and compliance activities to ensure benefits plans are in compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
- Ensuring credit union complies with the provisions of COBRA, HIPAA, FLSA and ERISA. File required reports to all agencies.
- Ensuring quality vendor performance and educates employees on eligibility, coverage, and plan options to include 401K and other benefits matters.
Qualifications for the Benefits Specialist include:
- Bachelor’s degree in HR or related field OR five years equivalent experience.
- Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) or Certified Employment Benefits Specialist (CEBS) or Certified Benefits Professional (CBP) designation is strongly preferred
- Three years HR experience with the majority of time spent on benefits program administration to include design and analysis, retirement plan administration, compliance and vendor management.
- Demonstrated knowledge of ERISA, Internal Revenue Code (benefit related), ADA, FMLA, HIPAA and COBRA regulations and a demonstrated continued learning focus.
- Demonstrated ability to understand accounting and finance concepts
- Demonstrated project management, problem solving and researching skills and ability to handle multiple competing priorities.
- Previous experience sourcing and managing vendor contracts
